Buyer handover: definition and process

Buyer handover is the stage when the developer delivers the dwelling and keys to the purchaser. The customer visits the property, checks it against the sale contract, and may record defects or unfinished work in a handover record.

Property handover in practice

Before the appointment, the team prepares the dwelling, rooms, equipment, and expected documents. Items already known from reception or earlier inspections should be identified.

During the visit, every buyer snag identifies the dwelling, room, location, description, and, where useful, a photograph and relevant trade. The document is then signed by the attending parties.

Buyer handover is not construction reception, which occurs earlier between the developer or client and the builders. The participants, documents, and legal effects are different.
